At R&F we have built our reputation with encaustic as the core of our line and have been instrumental in the expansion of the medium. When R&F began in 1988 it continued a tradition of high-quality commercial encaustic paint production dating back to the late 1940s. R&F’s encaustics are milled with the time-honored methods of paintmaking. We use 100 percent pure pharmaceutical grade (USP) beeswax, which has been filtered without the use of chemicals, Singapore-grade damar resin and a heavy pigment load. All of this results in the highest quality artist paints on the market.
What distinguishes our paint as handmade is the intensive labor involved in making paint solely from its base ingredients of pigment and medium. We want the individual characteristics of each pigment to through. This means that the formulation and milling of each pigment must be tailored to its particular traits. Each of our colors, therefore, has a slightly different feel to it. Each batch is milled in small carefully controlled batches.
R&F’s encaustic paints are currently made in 84 vibrant colors plus encaustic medium and impasto modeling wax.
